James W. Loewen is an American sociologist, historian, and author best known for his 1995 book, Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong. Loewen's work focuses on how history is taught in American schools and how the nation's past is remembered. He has written several other books on the subject of race, class, and culture in American history.
