Robert Lawson (1892–1957) was an American author and illustrator of children's books. He wrote and illustrated over 40 books, including the popular Rabbit Hill and The Story of Ferdinand, and won the 1940 Caldecott Medal for They Were Strong and Good. He was known for his detailed pen-and-ink drawings and watercolors, as well as his use of humor and his ability to capture the personalities of animals.
