Thomas C. Oden (1931-2016) was an American theologian and religious scholar widely regarded for his contributions to the study of Christian theology, ethics, and church history. Initially ingrained in liberal theology, Oden underwent a significant theological shift in the 1970s, becoming a prominent advocate for paleo-orthodoxy, an approach that seeks to align contemporary Christian faith with the consensus of the early Church Fathers. Throughout his career, Oden authored numerous books and was instrumental in promoting classical Christian teaching and patristic scholarship. He served as a professor at Drew University for many years and was also active in the ecumenical movement, working towards unity among different Christian traditions. Oden's advocacy for a return to the roots of Christianity had a profound influence on evangelical and mainline Protestant theology.
