Dutt Toru Dutt (1856–1877) was an Indian poet and writer who wrote in English and French. She was born in Calcutta, India, and was the eldest daughter of the Dutt family. She was well-educated and was a pioneer in Indian writing in English. She wrote two books of poetry, A Sheaf Gleaned in French Fields (1876) and Ancient Ballads and Legends of Hindustan (1882). Her works were praised for their originality and beauty. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 21.
