Wendy Cope

Wendy Cope is an English poet known for her humorous and witty verse. Born on July 21, 1945, in Erith, Kent, she worked as a primary school teacher before gaining fame as a writer. Cope's poetry often comments on the human condition and relationships, frequently with a playful or satirical twist. Her first published collection, "Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis" (1986), brought her significant acclaim. Cope's accessible style and keen observations on everyday life have made her a popular and respected figure in contemporary British poetry. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2010 for her services to literature.
