Printmaker virtuoso, draughtsman and Professor Emeritus in the Art Department at Webster University in St. Louis, Leon Hicks has for over 50 years created works that are at once aesthetically beautiful and conceptually complex. In this new body of work conceived as a celebration of dancing, Hicks has drawn individual and overlapping figures with oil stick on transparent rice, paper works from iconic, caper dancing are paired with an earlier series, the hip-hop allegories, which were inspired by the dancing of his students at Florida A&M University, playful and beautiful Hicks iconic images, evoke the energy and exuberance of dance.
