Jamie Raskin

Jamie Raskin is an American politician, lawyer, and author. He was born on December 13, 1962. As of my knowledge cutoff date in 2023, he is a member of the Democratic Party and serves as the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 8th congressional district, a position he has held since 2017. Before his congressional service, Raskin was a three-term State Senator in Maryland, where he was also known for his work on issues such as civil rights and environmental law. Raskin is also a constitutional law professor, having taught at American University's Washington College of Law, where he co-founded and directed its Program on Law and Government. Additionally, he is the author of several books on constitutional law and political theory, including "Overruling Democracy: The Supreme Court versus The American People" and "We the Students: Supreme Court Cases For and About Students." Jamie Raskin has become more widely recognized for his role in the impeachment trials of former President Donald Trump, where he served as the lead impeachment manager for Trump's second impeachment in early 2021. His articulate defense of constitutional principles during these proceedings has garnered him increased public attention and respect as a legal scholar and lawmaker.
